Your ministry is a divine assignment expressly given to you by the Holy Spirit to carry out amongst men. Success in the ministry is not gauged by size but by complete faithfulness to the assignment done according to the pattern revealed to you by the Holy Spirit. You may do a job very well but if that’s not what the Holy Spirit called and sent you to do; then you have wasted your entire sojourn on earth.
“As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.” (Acts 13:2).
The Holy Spirit says “…the work”. You are called to do “the work” and not just any good work. By God’s grace our ministry has gone from the quiescent city of Abeokuta where God told me to stay for a while– a small town in Ogun State, South-West of Nigeria to world-over, reaching Presidents of nations, heads of corporations and Churches, affecting hundreds of millions across denominations. Today it’s obvious that my partners and I have an amazingly outstanding ministry by God’s grace. Paul wrote Timothy: “…throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone will see your progress.” (1 Tim. 4:15).
An amazing ministry is one that distinctively stands out. It stands out so evidently that even enemies admit- “this is the finger of God.”
Your ministry can standout even when you are located in a small city like I am. It can stand out in a village. Your ministry could just be cleaning the floor or opening the door like Rhoda did when Peter escaped from prision. It could be reaching out to just one person, yet it’s an outstanding ministry if you do it excellently well.
Peter had an outstanding ministry but for a short while.
He was in the boat with his colleagues and when he saw Jesus walking on water he told Him to invite him to walk on the water also. He was invited and he stepped out of the boat; out of safety; out of an association etc. Yes, he was bold to do the impossible and those few steps gave him an outstanding success. Be bold to step out of the crowd of people who wish they could walk on water. Walk on the waters of life and have an outstanding ministry. Don’t pass through life a mediocre.
My prayer is that as we partner with this assignment, our ministries will become outstanding, as we all do them according to the pattern shown each of us by the Holy Spirit. When we partner we partake of the same grace made available by the Holy Spirit.
Each of us can have an outstanding ministry because our callings are totally different. There were a lot of spaces for the other disciples to walk on water if they had dared enough to; but they stayed within the comfort zone- how it’s normally done!
